Text Box: Employee Highlight Featuring Amy Tobolski

My name is Amy Tobolski and I am the lone Behavioral Health Specialist here at Northwest Health Connections. Being the only BHS means I stay pretty busy (Joanne has threatened to clone me more than once but I won’t let her until she can genetically engineer a “skinny” gene into it / her…me?...whatever). I have a BA from Thiel College and completed a four-semester course through Penn State on Applied Behavior Analysis. Prior to coming here, I was a Behavior Specialist for Residential for about eight years and a Resource coordinator for Children’s Mental Health for another three.
I have spent most of my life living in or near Youngsville. My husband and I have been together for over 15 years (some say I must be crazy) and I have a stepson who just turned 18 at the end of 2006 and will graduate in June (so he knows almost everything now). We live in a quiet valley tucked into the woods called Sulphur Springs (I’ve been in downtown Pittsburgh on a detour in the middle of rush hour – I live in the woods for a reason). There really is a sulfur spring there and I grew up drinking the water, despite the distinct odor (some have compared it to rotten eggs). We are hoping to rebuild the springhouse later this year in remembrance of my grandparents, who spent the majority of their life in our valley.
We don’t get a lot of traffic, which is great for our dog Kellie and cat Miggs (yes, she’s named after the character in Silence of the Lambs – what can I say, she was a nasty little kitten, so the name fit). I really enjoy summer days, sitting on our big front porch with the animals, listening to the creek, and getting dive-bombed by hummingbirds. More than anywhere else, our front porch is the place that always reminds me of the amazing things you can find in the everyday if you slow down long enough to look.
Alas, those summer days inevitably fade into the next step in the great cycle of life – football season! I have always been a Steelers fan (watching Bradshaw win Super Bowls was a family affair at my house), as there are no other teams out there worth rooting for. So with football essentially over this year, what now? (good question) Fortunately for me, I also enjoy reading, cooking, and listening to music. My mother forced me to take piano lessons for most of my pre-teen years (thanks, mom), so I also like to play and sing when I have the house to myself. And the dog doesn’t even howl!
