Over-the-counter (OTC) medications are not innocuous. If used incorrectly, they can be quite harmful. So often an individual may have more than one medication listed on their medication record that can be used for the same thing - such as for pain. How do you decide which medication to use? Do you know what to watch for after ou give a prn medication?
Northwest Health Connections has developed a training on the more commonly used over-the-counter medications that will answer all of the above questions and more. We have also put together a booklet of all these medications that encompasses the generic as well as the brand names, the uses for each medication, and proper storage for each medication. These booklets are for placement in each of your group homes, residential homes, etc., and will be distributed at the training. These booklets can be used as a guide whenever you need to give an OTC medication so you can be sure to give the medication safely and correctly.
